How to Get the Most Out of a Psychic Reading: Before, During & After Your Session

How to Get the Most Out of a Psychic Reading: Before, During & After Your Session

A good psychic reading should leave you with greater clarity, not more confusion. It may help you understand a relationship differently, recognize a pattern you have been repeating, see possibilities you had not considered, or simply confirm something you already sensed but were afraid to trust.
Getting the most out of a psychic reading is not only about finding a gifted psychic.
It is also about understanding what a reading can do, what it cannot do, and how to participate in the experience without trying to control it.
After more than four decades of giving psychic readings, I have found that the most useful sessions are rarely the ones in which someone arrives with forty questions and a determination to receive one particular answer.
They are usually the ones in which someone comes with genuine curiosity, a willingness to listen, and enough openness to allow the reading to go somewhere they may not have expected. Book a Psychic Reading with Laura: Book Now
So how do you prepare for a psychic reading and get the greatest value from the time you have?
The Short Answer: How Do You Get the Most Out of a Psychic Reading?
Come with an idea of what you would like clarity about, but do not feel that you need to tell the psychic your entire history.
Write down important questions so you do not forget them.
Choose a quiet place where you can concentrate.
Listen to what comes through, including information you did not expect.
Ask for clarification when something is unclear.
Most importantly, remember that a psychic reading is guidance. It should help you make your own choices, not take your choices away from you.
1. Decide What You Really Want to Understand
Before your reading, ask yourself a simple question:
Why am I booking this?
Perhaps you are worried about a relationship.
Maybe you feel stuck professionally.
You may be trying to decide whether to move, change jobs, begin something new, or let something go.
Perhaps you are looking for spiritual guidance, trying to understand a recurring pattern, or hoping to connect with someone who has passed.
You do not have to know exactly what you want to ask. Some people genuinely want a general reading and prefer to see what comes through first.
That is perfectly fine.
If something specific has been occupying your thoughts for weeks, write it down.
People are surprisingly good at forgetting the question they desperately wanted answered as soon as a reading takes an unexpected turn.

2. You Do Not Need to Tell the Psychic Everything

This is one area where my advice may differ from some psychic-reading guides.
You do not need to provide your entire backstory before a reading begins, in fact I find it more helpful not to.
If you want to discuss a relationship, you can tell the psychic that you would like to look at your relationship.
If you have a career question, say that.
If you are asking about someone specific, you can identify the person.
But you should not have to spend fifteen minutes explaining every argument, every previous relationship, what your mother thinks, what your best friend thinks, and what happened three Christmases ago before the psychic can begin.
Part of the value of a psychic reading is seeing what the reader perceives without being supplied with all of the answers first.
There is a balance.
A reading should be a conversation, not an interrogation and not a guessing game.
Give enough information to establish what you want to explore, then allow the reading to unfold.
3. Write Down Your Questions, But Do Not Over-Script the Reading
A few thoughtful questions are usually more useful than a long checklist.
Instead of asking only:
“Will I get the job?”
you might ask:
“What do you see around this opportunity?”
Instead of:
“Is this person my soulmate?”
you might ask:
“What should I understand about this relationship?”
Instead of:
“When exactly will I meet someone?”
you might ask:
“What do you see developing in my romantic life?”
Open questions give the reading room to reveal information you did not already know to ask about.
You can always become more specific as the conversation continues.
4. Give Yourself a Few Quiet Minutes Before the Reading
You do not have to meditate for an hour, cleanse your aura, light a particular candle, or achieve some perfect spiritual state before speaking with a psychic.

You can and should show up as yourself. But if possible, give yourself five or ten quiet minutes first.
Turn off distractions.
Take a few breaths.
Get a glass of water.
Find your questions.
If you are having a phone or video reading, make sure you are somewhere you can speak privately.
This preparation is less about improving the psychic's ability to read you and more about helping you hear, remember, and process what is being said.
Trying to discuss a complicated relationship while driving through traffic, answering text messages, and looking for your keys does not create ideal conditions for anyone.
5. Try Not to Arrive Demanding One Particular Answer
This may be one of the hardest things to do.
Sometimes we do not really want guidance.
We want confirmation.
We want the psychic to say:
Yes, this person is coming back.
Yes, you will get that job.
Yes, you should make that move.
Yes, everything will happen exactly the way you hope.
I understand that. Uncertainty is uncomfortable.

If you already know the only answer you are willing to accept, you are not leaving much room for an honest reading.
Sometimes the most valuable information is not what we wanted to hear.
That does not mean accepting everything a psychic says without question. You should always use your own judgment.
It simply means allowing the reading to show you possibilities beyond the one you arrived hoping for.
6. Participate in the Reading

A psychic reading does not have to be a performance in which you sit silently while the psychic talks for an hour.
Ask questions.
If I say something you do not understand, ask me what I mean.
If something reminds you of another situation you want to explore, say so.
If you want me to look more deeply at one particular area, tell me.
A good reading can be conversational.
That does not mean feeding the psychic information. It means using the information coming through to explore what matters to you.
7. Pay Attention to the Information You Did Not Ask For
Some of the most meaningful moments in readings come from subjects the client never intended to discuss.
You may book because of a relationship and suddenly career information appears.
You may ask about work and receive a message about a family member.
You may want to discuss the future and instead discover that an old pattern is affecting the choices you are making now.
Do not automatically dismiss something simply because it was not on your list.
Sometimes the unexpected information is exactly why the reading went in that direction.
You can always return to your original questions afterward.
8. Remember That the Future Is Not a Concrete Wall
One of the most important things I teach clients is that psychic information about the future is not the same thing as declaring an unavoidable fate.

People make choices.
Circumstances change.
Other people make choices.
You change your mind.
A psychic may perceive where a situation appears to be heading based upon the energy, circumstances, people, and decisions surrounding it at the time of the reading.
That can be extremely useful.
Useful guidance should not make you feel powerless.
If someone tells you that something is going to happen no matter what you do, particularly if they use fear to make you dependent upon additional readings or services, I would be cautious.
You still have free will.
9. Take Notes or Record the Session If Permitted
There is usually far more information in a reading than people remember afterward.
You may walk away thinking you remember everything and discover two days later that half of it has disappeared.
Take notes.
If your psychic permits recordings, record the session.
Written readings naturally give you something you can return to later.
This can be particularly useful because some information does not make sense immediately.
A name may mean nothing during the reading and suddenly become relevant a month later.
An observation you dismiss may make perfect sense after circumstances change.
Give the reading a little room to breathe before deciding which parts mattered most.

10. Reflect Afterward Instead of Immediately Chasing Another Reading
You do not need another reading simply because the first one gave you something to think about.

Sit with it.
Review your notes.
Notice what resonated.
Notice what did not.
Ask yourself whether there was advice you can actually use.
A psychic reading should help you live your life. It should not become a substitute for living it.
There is nothing wrong with having regular readings if you enjoy them or find them useful, but you should not need a psychic to make every decision for you.
A good reading should increase your confidence in your own judgment, not decrease it.
11. Use the Reading for Insight, Not Permission
Sometimes clients ask questions they already know the answer to.
They know a relationship is unhealthy.
They know they hate their job.
They know they want to move.
They know they have been ignoring something important.
What they are really looking for is permission.
A psychic reading may help you understand why you feel the way you do or what possibilities surround a decision.
But ultimately, your life remains yours and only you can make the final decisions.
Think of a reading as another source of information.
It may illuminate a road.
It may point out an obstacle.
It may show you something approaching around the bend.
You still decide where to walk.
12. Choose a Psychic Whose Approach Fits You
Not every gifted psychic is the right psychic for every person.

Some readers use Tarot or other divination tools.
Some work primarily through clairvoyance.
Some specialize in mediumship, past lives, relationships, pets, or spiritual development.
Some are very direct.
Others are gentler.
Some readings are highly conversational, while others are more structured.
Look at how the psychic describes their work. Read reviews. Pay attention to whether their philosophy feels compatible with yours.
I have always preferred a grounded, conversational style. I want clients to feel comfortable asking questions, laughing when something funny comes through, disagreeing if something does not make sense, and leaving the reading feeling more capable of handling their lives rather than more frightened of them.
That approach will not necessarily suit everyone.
Find the reader whose approach suits you.
What Should You Ask During a Psychic Reading?
There is no perfect list, but useful questions might include:

* What should I understand about this relationship?
* What do you see developing around my career?
* What pattern may be keeping me stuck?
* What possibilities surround this decision?
* What should I know about the next few months in regards to ___?
* Is there something I am overlooking in this situation?
* What do you see around my spiritual development?
* What would be helpful for me to focus on right now in regards to ___?
And yes, you can still ask:
“Is he coming back?”
Sometimes that really is what you want to know.
Just be willing to explore the larger answer too.

Frequently Asked Questions About Psychic Readings
Do I need to prepare questions before a psychic reading?
No. You can have a general reading and see what comes through. However, writing down any subjects that are especially important to you can prevent you from forgetting them during the session.
How much information should I give a psychic?
Enough to tell the reader what you want to explore. You should not normally need to provide your entire history before the reading begins.
What if something the psychic says does not make sense?
Ask for clarification. Sometimes information becomes meaningful later, but you should never feel pressured to pretend something resonates when it does not.
Can a psychic tell me exactly what will happen?
A psychic may perceive likely developments, timing, patterns, and possibilities, but people and circumstances can change. I do not view the future as completely fixed.
How often should I have a psychic reading?
There is no universal schedule. Have another reading when there is something meaningful you want to explore, not because you feel incapable of making a decision without one.
Can a psychic reading replace professional advice?
No. Psychic guidance should not replace qualified medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice. Use the appropriate professional when the situation requires one.
The Real Value of a Psychic Reading

A psychic reading can give you another way of looking at your life.
It can help you recognize something you were too close to see.
It can reassure you.
Challenge you.
Confirm an intuition.
Show you another possibility.
Or occasionally tell you something you never expected to hear.
But the purpose of a reading is not to hand your future over to someone else.
It is to help you understand your own life more clearly.
After more than four decades of doing this work, I still think that is where the greatest value lies.
